The Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals are playing live on the NHL schedule on Wednesday night and the game is on the NBC Sports Network starting up at 7:30 pm ET from the Verizon Center as the two east teams matchup and the Atlantic division is tight this year along with the Metro and the matchup is streaming online from the NBCSN Live Extra website.
The Caps come into the game at third in the Metro division and they have played well to start the season and they have 10 points coming in. The Caps are 4-2-2 on the year so far and they have a game coming up against the Tampa Bay Lightning and they last lost to the Vancouver Canucks and that was a 4-2 defeat and now they will try and bounce back after allowing three goals in the second period. The team also lost to the Oilers and that was their first loss in regulation and now they are home and are looking to get things back on track.
Mike Green is leading the team in scoring and Alex Ovechkin is tops in goals to start the season and the caps are ranked in the top 10 in goals per game so far. The team is also eighth in goals against and third in power play percentage and the team is also 18th in penalty kill percentage. The Islanders and Penguins have started the season in the top two spots in the division and the Capitals are third. The Red Wings are fourth in the Atlantic division and they come in with 10 points and will next play against the LA Kings after losing to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Red Wings come into the game at first in the league in penalty kill percentage and they are sixth in goals against with just two allowed per game. Detroit won against the Penguins in overtime before falling to the Flyers and now the team has another east game against the Caps.
