The St. Louis Blues and NY Rangers are playing live on the NHL schedule on Monday and the game from Madison Square Garden starts up at 7 pm ET and has New York looking to move up in the Metro division after a tough shootout loss and NYR has to try and overcome injuries, including to captain Ryan McDonagh.
The Rangers come into the game at fourth in the Metro division and they are 5-4-1 on the season and now are coming in after the shootout loss to the Jets. The team has the Blues and then they will host an Original Six matchup at the Garden with the Detroit Red Wings. The team comes in dealing with some injuries and they are ranked 18th in the league with 2.6 goals per game and they are also 28th in the league in power play percentage. Rick Nash is leading the team in points and goals and he will need to keep that up if the team wants a chance at playing in the Stanley Cup finals again.
The Rangers had a huge win last week after they made a three goal comeback against the Wild and that saw Mats Zuccarello score the winner. The team has been getting some great play from Rick Nash and right now he is finally showing the form that everyone expected when he first came to New York and this could be a sign of things to come for the team. Henrik Lundqvist has been off to a slow start this season, but he has played better of late and he will try and keep things going in net.
The Rangers have been up and down to start the season and the same thing played out last year early in the season. The team ended up in the Stanley Cup finals, but that was no easy feat and now they need Nash to continue playing at a high level to even think about getting there again. The Rangers won a seven game series against the Flyers before making a historic comeback against the Penguins and then the team went and won over the Canadiens in six games. The Rangers lost in five to the Kings and played hard, but they were no match for the refs, who gave every call to the Kings, or LA themselves, as they took advantage of those calls.
The Blues come into the game with a 6-3-1 record and they have 13 points on the season and are third in the central division. The team comes in after a win over Colorado in a shootout and they will next play against the Devils on the road in New Jersey. The matchup for the Blues against the Rangers is an even one up front, but they have the advantage on the blue line with the injuries they have. The team comes in at fourth in the league in goals against and ninth in power play percentage.
