The San Antonio Spurs have enjoyed a 16-game win streak over the Atlanta Hawks. The team has not been as dominant over any of their other opponents as they have been against the Hawks over the past few seasons. The Spurs aim to keep that streak alive as the Eastern Conference team heads to Texas for a Wednesday face off.
Both the Hawks and Spurs have only played two games at this point in the NBA season and have to really figure out their identities which could make this matchup more even than assumed. Both squads are 1-1 on the year. The Spurs edged out Dallas in their opener before losing to the Phoenix Suns, giving up a fourth quarter lead. The Hawks feel to the Toronto Raptors in their opener, but then beat up on Indiana at home.
The Spurs are benefitting from solid from their usual cast of veterans. Tony Parker is leading the charge with 21.0 points per game while Tim Duncan has 15 and Manu Ginobili is putting up 11 a game. Their numbers are important as Kawhi Leonard is just getting back onto the court following an eye infection. The 2014 NBA Finals MVP put up a bagel in his debut against Phoenix.
Meanwhile the Atlanta Hawks have been charging offensively. Jeff Teague put up 25 points against Indiana, 10 of them being in the fourth quarter. Al Horford is also back and better than ever after having 20 points against the Pacers. The team has also been dominating from beyond the arc. The Hawks are one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the league at the moment thanks to Kyle Korver and Mike Scott. Korver converted 8 of his 10 attempts while Scott went 5 for 7 from beyond the arc. The Hawks might not have the best history against the Spurs, but the team is clicking in their two games on the court which could help change history.
