New York Mets News: Matt Harvey to Make Debut on Thursday Against Arizona Diamondbacks

Jul 22, 2012 07:38 PM EDT

The New York Mets will call up their right handed pitcher from the minors, Matt Harvey from the Buffalo Bisons.

With three-fifths of their rotation on the disabled list, the Mets believe it is the right time.

All they have left is Jon Niese and R.A. Dickey in their starting rotation. Johan Santana, Dillon Gee and Mike Pelfrey have all been sidelines.

Pelfrey will be out for the season, while Gee is expected sometime back in September, if he returns.

Santana was placed on the DL on Saturday after struggling in his last three starts and tweaking his right ankle.

In Harvey the Mets have a young right-handed pitcher with a quality arm.

He is 23-years-old and gets strikeouts. In 110 innings pitched, Harvey has struck out 112 hitters. That's a strikeout through nine innings pitched (K/9) ratio of over 10.

Harvey was set to be audition for a starting spot last week when Met scouts saw the youngster pitching. Though his 7-5, 3.68 earned runs average seem decent, he had a rough start on Saturday.

He threw five innings and struck out six, but gave up six earned runs on seven hits.

If any Mets fans or sports fans in general want to wish the young man luck, they can send him a tweet @MattHarvey43.

It shall be interesting to keep track of what Mets fans say before and after his first start.

He is scheduled to take the mound against the, currently, 47-48 Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

They are a patient team that can get on base. So Harvey will have to throw strikes.
