Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard admitted a future move to the U.S. and Major League Soccer could be possible.
Speaking after the Blues' 1-1 draw in the pre-season friendly against Paris St Germain at the Yankee stadium, Lampard said his future was dependent on what happened at the end of the season, when his contract expires.
The 34-year-old, who had a strong finish to the season with Chelsea last season, was previously linked with a move the Los Angeles Galaxy, after being pictured watching a game with David Beckham in America.
While the midfielder immediately played down the rumors and said he would spend next season with the European champions, Lampard will be worried about the changing shape at Stamford Bridge.
In what is seen as a major overhaul, Roman Abramovich and Roberto Di Matteo are changing the structure and style of play at Chelsea, by bringing in younger, more technically adept players, capable of playing an attractive style.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar are seen as the future of the club, and Lampard will be wondering where he fits in the new scheme of things at Chelsea.
Under then new manager Andre Villas-Boas, Lampard failed to establish a regular starting berth at the beginning of last season, with the manager preferring younger players. After Di Matteo took over, however, the England international, who missed Euro 2012 due to injury, won back his place and along with other veterans like Didier Drogba, inspired the Blues to a Champions League and FA Cup triumph; thus salvaging what would have been otherwise a disappointing season for the Blues.
Lampard has just one year remaining on his contract, and acknowledged he would be open to talks over a new contract, but admitted it would be up to Chelsea to initiate it. "I have another year on my contract at Chelsea, Lampard told reporters in New York.
"We have a big season. We play in the Super Cup and the World Club Championship in December. Then it's up to Chelsea.
"If they want to speak with me about my future, then I'll speak with them. I wouldn't rule anything out at the moment."
Asked whether he would be open to a move to the MLS, Lampard said: "Not at the moment, no, because I have a contract with Chelsea. Beyond that I don't know."
Meanwhile, Andre Schurrle, who saw a reported €25million (£19.5 million, $30.4 million) bid for him from Chelsea rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, admitted he would have loved the chance to play for the European Champions in the English Premier League.
"I don't think you would find any player in the Bundesliga who would say that they would not at all be interested," the forward told Kicker magazine.
"Chelsea would have been very interesting for me. You don't get a chance like that very often in your life.
"(Director of sport) Rudi Voller has explained the reasoning to me several times. They could not find a suitable replacement and I am too important to Bayer."
