NY Jets Rumors: Michael Vick Free Agency Return Unlikely if Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota Drafted? Geno Smith Future Questioned as Ryan Mallett, Colt McCoy Targets

Michael Vick was the quarterback responsible for breaking the losing streak of the New York Jets, not Geno Smith. Vick will be getting the start in Week 11, marking his third start for the team over the second-year pro and after comments for general manager John Idzik over the lack of a franchise quarterback on the team, it is assumed Vick could start the remainder of the season. However, no matter what kind of success the veteran quarterback achieves with New York for the remainder of the season, he is uncertain about a return in 2015.

Vick signed with the Jets because he believed they gave him the best shot at seeing the field as a starter this year. He was correct. However, the veteran only earned a one-year deal, making each start an audition for a job in 2015. Could that job come with the Jets again? Vick has no idea.

"I like it here," Vick said, via NJ.com. "But that's not my decision to make. Whether I'm in the plans or not, that's the future-I'm going to try to predict that. I'm happy with whatever the situation may be. I understand the type of business that we are in. I'm just going to keep pushing to get better, and that's it."

Vick has proven over the past three games that he certainly has a lot left in the tank when it comes to being a starting quarterback. Naturally the veteran is trying to choose his words carefully when it comes to discussions of his future with Smith still on the roster, but one thing is very clear, Vick intends to play well after his one-year deal expires.

"Listen, man, I know we are talking about something that's so far-fetched right now that I can't even see," Vick said. "Like I said, I like it here in New York, it's been great, but I can't predetermine or make a decision on what's going to happen because the minute you start setting your sights on something or wanting something too much, then if it doesn't happen for you, then it's a big disappointment."

The Jets are setting themselves up for a high draft pick in 2015 as they sit at 2-8 on the year entering their bye week. The team is clearly not sold on Smith as the long-term option just yet. Could the team draft someone like Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota to compete with the quarterback? That is certainly an option, but that would mean the team lacks a veteran that can help coach up the younger players. That was the role Vick was supposed to play for Smith. The Jets' quarterback drama is only just beginning. Teams will certainly be interest in signing Vick, but New York must decide if they are going to be one of them.
