The Cleveland Cavaliers have started to come together and now that LeBron James has led the team to a couple wins, things have settled on the Dion Waiters, front, but he has continued to be a distraction and if this keeps up, as trade could go down and teams like the LA Lakers, Indiana Pacers or Miami Heat could be interested in adding the young guard if the Cavs make a move.
James said that the team would struggle early in the season and after starting off 1-3, the team has won two straight games and now they are at 3-3 and heading into a matchup with the Boston Celtics. Waiters has been a bit of a distraction and a headline maker over the first few weeks and over the summer, as he has made comments about starting, about his playing time and he also has been in other controversies as well. According to ESPN.com, Waiters missed the national anthem last week and while he called it a "misunderstanding" it was yet another distraction for the Cavaliers.
On top of all of that, Waiters is dealing with an injury and that coming after the national anthem incident magnified the situation, as he was out of the lineup after that. Waiters being out coincided with two wins and whole that may not be a direct connection, there is a chance the Cavs may look to make a move at the deadline or sooner. Waiters came up in trade rumors last year when he was dealing with some issues with Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, but that was when the Cavs were a losing team and a joke of a franchise.
Waiters has been mentioned in trade talk since last year after his issues with Irving and while he has talent and is a solid player, the Cavaliers may look at making a move. The team had been interested in Timofey Mozgov over the summer and now they could try and pick up on that again. The Nuggets have not been looking to trade Mozgov, but if the Cavs put in a player like Waiters, there is a chance they could reconsider. Waiters was out with a back injury against the Pelicans and he could be back soon.
James coming over changed all of that and now the young team needs to grow up fast and if Waiters can't do that, he could be moved. Waiters is averaging just under 10 points per game this season and he has not been in the starting lineup after opening as one of the starters this season. Waiters averaged over 15 points last season off the bench and that could be his role if he stays with the Cavaliers. Head coach David Blatt said that Waiters is day to day and that he could be available against the Celtics for the next matchup for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are starting to take shape and they have some tough games coming up, including against the Spurs and the Wizards. The team has played much better recently and now they have won two in a row after dropping their previous two. James has the team playing with cohesiveness and that could continue through this month.
