For every step forward Mark Sanchez takes, he appears to take two steps backwards. The quarterback's comeback run got off to a good start with a win over the Carolina Panthers, but a blow-out loss to the Green Bay Packers has the quarterback right back where he started. Sanchez is in need of raising his stock in the league if he hopes to sign with a team next season and while many assumed he was poised for a starting job with the Eagles or elsewhere, there is not growing doubt about his abilities.
The love surrounding Sanchez came to an end on Sunday when the Eagles fell to the Green Bay Packers 20-53. The quarterback threw for 346 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He did not look great and now the Eagles fanbase is taking back those comments about him being the quarterback of the future. Sanchez's stock skyrocketed after the Carolina game. Many believed he could be the franchise's new face as doubt had grown around Nick Foles. However, with Sanchez coming back down to earth, Foles' future is looking a lot brighter in Philadelphia.
According to head coach Chip Kelly, Foles has been cleared to begin working out following a fracture in his collarbone. The quarterback seen throwing and running drills with the practice squad prior to the matchup in Green Bay and Kelly believes Foles could be back sooner rather than later.
"He can work out now, but it comes down to 'does the bone heal,'" Kelly said, via NJ.com. "That's the biggest question. He'll get a re-check at some point in time. They said it's usually three or four weeks before he takes another X-ray. He has not had that done yet. Until they get an X-Ray done, he'll continue to work out. Try to stay in shape. He did some running at the hotel in the fitness center early in the morning. He'll continue to do those things to make sure when he does get cleared that the bone is healed, it isn't 'Oh, now we have to take a couple weeks to get in shape.'"
Sanchez is working off a one-year deal, so the Eagles will have to decide what to do for everyone including that contract extension for Foles. The Eagles also have Matt Barkley on the roster making things even more complicated. The Eagles are going to have to decide whether or not to fully invest in Foles for the future or keep Sanchez around as potential option. With several teams looking for starting quarterbacks in 2015, Sanchez will have interest on the market regardless of what continues to happen with the Eagles.
