So far this offseason the Los Angeles Lakers have made some drastic upgrades to their roster with the addition of two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, veteran forward Antawn Jamison and retaining forward Jordan Hill. Only thing that remains necessary is a viable option behind Kobe Bryant at shooting guard.
It may be a roll of the dice but sharp shooter Michael Redd is now speculated to become a possible signing for the historic franchise.
Redd, 32, is nowhere near the scorer he once was, but as Kobe's backup he would be able to bring different factors to the table.
Though he struggles with his shooting efficiency, last season shooting 31 percent from the three-point line and 40 percent from the floor, with him on the floor he will stretch the defense because he is a threat as a shooter.
Signing Redd could potentially become another low risk and high reward situation like the signing of Jamison.
With Nash locked in for three years and the contracts of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum or Dwight Howard to consider, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is only seeking out free agents that might be willing to sign with the team for the veteran's minimum, and Redd fits the build.
With no teams showing much interest in Redd, the Lakers will most certainly be able to sign the shooter for the veteran's minimum, thus adding to their roster depth.
