Prior to signing with the New York Jets, Michael Vick told the media that he felt he had plenty of years left in the league and fully intended to be a starting quarterback for a team. The New York Jets gave him a chance to start, but will they give him a chance at a few more years in the league? The quarterback still feels the same way now as he did during free agency and expects to sign a multi-year deal somewhere during next season's free agency run.
Vick is currently the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. The quarterback got his wish of signing with a team that would give him a chance to play and thanks to the struggles of Geno Smith, the Jets are putting their faith in Vick. The issue for the veteran will come in the offseason when he is once again a free agent and convincing teams that at 34, he can still be a quality quarterback. Vick predicts he has at least two more years left in him.
"I would love to play again, at least get it out of my system for two more years," Vick said, via NFL Media's Kimberly Jones. "Because I know I got it in me. I don't know. I'm just taking it one game at a time. It's funny because you get used to being in a certain place, and sometimes you have to leave."
Vick has said that he loves New York and would certainly love to remain with the team, but that may not be an option, especially if the Jets decide to overhaul the leadership on the team. It is highly speculated that both Rex Ryan and John Idzik will be out at the end of the year and a new head coach and general manager might want to bring in their own guys to help rebuild the roster. That could mean Vick does not return and it could also mean Smith is traded.
Unless Vick suddenly leads a late-season win streak looking like a brand new quarterback, he along with Ryan and Idzik are out. The quarterback will be left to convince the new head coach that he is the right man for the job. New York will likely finish with a high draft pick and while they have several needs on the roster, a quarterback might be the top priority.
