The Seattle Seahawks are riding Marshawn Lynch this season, but come 2015 it's likely he will not be on the roster, as he has a high cap number and after his antics with the media and staying out of the locker room at halftime for the game last week, chances are that Pete Carroll will look to release the RB and a team like the Miami Dolphins could be a potential fit.
Lynch has been one of the main reasons why the Seahawks have been successful over the past few years, but he has increasingly been a headache for Pete Carroll and the team. Reports from media outlets like ESPN and SI.com have reported that the team is tired of Lynch's antics and on top of that, they are looking to release him because he is set to count for over $6 million next season. Lynch is getting older and once running backs hit a certain age their production goes down considerably.
The Seahawks have prepared for this, as they have drafted Robert Turbin and Christine Michael over the past few drafts and they should be fine if Lynch is released. Obviously those players are not as talented as Lynch, but if the team showed anything with the Percy Harvin trade it's that no one is more important than the team. Lynch wasn't happy with that trade and while Carroll downplayed any issues with Russell Wilson, it's clear something will be going down for 2015 with Lynch and the Seahawks.
Lynch comes into the game with a back injury, but it's not considered serious even though he was out of practice on Wednesday. This season Lynch has 813 yards and nine touchdowns and while he should get to 1000 yards this season, he is on track to finish with far fewer carries and fewer yards than last season. The Dolphins lost Knowshon Moreno this year after signing him to a one year deal and they could be interested in Lynch if he is released after the season.
The Seahawks finish the season with a tough schedule and while they are right in the playoff race, the NFC is tight and there is a chance the team could miss out. The Cardinals right now are the favorites in the NFC West after the Seahawks won the division last season and they have the chance to lock that in with games against Seattle and San Francisco. The Cardinals will play the Seahawks twice over the next six weeks and the Seahawks have the Niners twice, meaning the division is still up in the air a bit.
The Seahawks come in after snapping a three game winning streak against the Chiefs and now they have the Cardinals at home. The team has two of the next three against the 49ers and Eagles on the road and after that the team finishes with three straight division games. The Seahawks play against the Niners, Cardinals and Rams to finish the season and those will be very important games for their playoff chances. The Seahawks will have questions about Lynch no matter what happens this season, but making another playoff run likely will depend on how Lynch plays.
