Olympics 2012 Soccer Results: Morocco vs Honduras Finish in a 2-2 Tie

Jul 26, 2012 09:18 AM EDT

There was a lot of action in the first matchup between teams from Group D. Morocco and Honduras were locked in a close physical matchup that finished in a 2-2 tie.

Morocco scored first as Abdelaziz Barrada put Morocco on the board in the 39th minute of play.

Honduras eventually answered back with a goal of their own at the 56 minute mark. Jerry Bengston deflected a shot that changed the course of the ball, completely fooling Morocco's goalie.

Bengston then scored again just nine minutes later on a penalty kick.

If there was anything noticeable until this point was the physicality of both teams. Both teams played scrappy football, other times they made dumb decisions as their game became too physical.

By the time the score was 2-1, three players had yellow cards handed to them. Honduras had Jose Velasquez yellow carded in the first half. Morocco had two players yellow carded within minutes of each other. Soufiane Bidaqui was yellow carded in minute 51, while Houssine Kharja was yellow carded in minute 54.

Zakaria Labyad saved Morocco's overly aggressive game with a goal in minute 67.

Following the goal, Zakarya Bergdich was handed a red card and dismissed from the game. Honduras' Arnold Peralta and Roger Espinoza were both given yellow cards.

So what does this say to Japan and Spain?

They better be ready to play physical soccer during the Olympics. All four teams are in Group D.

Japan and Spain will square off later in the day.
