As it turns out, Matt Garza will not be moved by the Chicago Cubs after an MRI revealed fluid on the veteran's right arm.
As expected from a General Manager like Theo Epstein, trading and moving players was one of the team's goals before the July 31st deadline. Garza was one of the main parts the Cubs were trying to move.
A lot of teams balked at the idea of adding Garza because they sensed something was up with his arm.
Now, manager Dale Sveum says Garza will not be pitching until after the trade deadline is up, meaning teams will not get to scout the right hander, making him unavailable as trade bait.
The Cubs' best option, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, will be to wait until the offseason to move Garza. He is currently in the last year of his contract and will be eligible for arbitration next season. Garza becomes a free agent in 2014.
In 2012, Garza has a 3.91 ERA with a 5-7 record.
The Cubs have made a lot of noise as far as trade rumors this year, yet nothing has resulted. At the beginning of the week they had been rumored to have shipped Ryan Dempster off to Atlanta, but the right hander, being a 10/5 player, rejected the trade.
The Cubs still have four days to make moves in relation to Dempster. As of now, Garza will be a Cub for the remainder of the season.
