The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are headed in opposite directions. The Jets have two wins on the season and are preparing to fire a good portion of their staff in the offseason. The Dolphins sit at 6-5 with a real shot at making the postseason if Ryan Tannehill and company can string together a few last-minutes wins. These two teams always seem to provide fireworks when they face off and this Monday night should be no different.
The Dolphins are coming off a close loss to the Denver Broncos which only mean their foot will be on the pedals to start fast and beat the Jets to continue their quest for a postseason spot. Miami is currently 0-3 in games decided by four or fewer points. They recently blew an 11-point lead over the Denver Broncos after giving up late leads to Detroit and Green Bay. They are hoping to avoid a trend as they prepare to face the slumping Jets and Geno Smith.
The Dolphins are still alive in the postseason. They are one game behind a five-team pack all fighting for two wild card spots. They trail the New England Patriots by three games in the AFC East which makes a win over New York critical. The Dolphins have not seen the playoffs since 2008 and might have the easiest path this year to get their. They face the Jets twice in their final five games along with having home-field advantage.
Ryan Tannehill must win the quarterback battle in Week 13. He currently ranks third in the league with a 70.9 completion percentage which includes 12 touchdowns and just three interceptions in his last six games. Jarvis Landry and Mike Wallace continue to come up big for the Dolphins as the team continues to outscore opponents 231-137 in the first three quarters of play.
They get lucky facing a slumping Jets team. Smith has been named the starter over Michael Vick which might not be great thing. He has not started a game since Oct. 26 and is in real need of something positive if he intends to stick around. New York does not have much to play for after being eliminated from the playoff race, but upsetting the Dolphins would be a solid moment of the season.
