NHL News and Rumors: LA Kings Sign Alec Martinez To Extension To Join Dustin Brown, Jonathan Quick Through 2019

The Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman Alec Martinez to a six year contract extension and now they have locked in another core player on their roster for the foreseeable future after winning two Stanley Cup championships over the past few seasons.

According to Sportsnet and Pro Hockey Talk, Martinez signed a six year deal worth $24 million deal and he now will get a bump from his $1.1 million salary. Martinez has played very well for the team during his stretch and he was excellent in the playoffs, putting up 10 points in 24 games as the team won the Stanley Cup. Martinez is offensively inclined for the Kings and scored a career high 11 goals and 22 points while playing in 61 games last season.

The Kings now have the core group of their team locked up through the rest of the decade, as Martinez is now in along with Jonathan Quick and Dustin Brown as well as Slava Voynov, Mike Richards, Marian Gaborik and Jeff Carter. The Kings were scary last season when they made it through the playoffs and now they have the chance to repeat.

Martinez also was the player to score the overtime winner to clinch the Stanley Cup against the Rangers.
