The LA Dodgers may look at trade deals involving Zack Greinke, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford at the winter meetings and this comes as Los Angeles has free agent interests in Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, Andrew Miller and David Robertson heading into the back stretch of the 2014 offseason.
The Dodgers reportedly are jumping in late on the Jon Lester sweepstakes and this comes as the Giants, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves have been connected to the free agent pitcher. According to Hardball Talk, the interest in Lester from the Dodgers could mean that Zack Greinke could be on the trading block, as he could be a free agent after next season. The team knows Greinke has an opt out and they could look to trade him while adding Lester or Max Scherzer on a new deal.
The Dodgers were rumored to be shopping Matt Kemp reaching back to last season and now teams like the Mariners and San Diego Padres could be interested in a deal. Kemp, Ethier and Crawford are options for the Dodgers, as they have Yasiel Puig firmly planted in the lineup and would like to open up a spot for Joc Pederson. Kemp is 30 and had a strong finish to the season, but the biggest issue is his contract since he has five years and $100 million left on it. The Mariners have been mentioned in connection with Kemp since last year and now that they have traded Michael Saunders to the Blue Jays. Kemp would fit in nicely along with Nelson Cruz and the team could either trade a top name like Taijuan Walker or pick up more of the contract.
According to Hardball Talk, the San Diego Padres have engaged the Dodgers about a Matt Kemp deal and the report says that no deal is imminent. Fox Sports reported the news and that it's likely if they make a deal, Yasmani Grandal will be involved. The Orioles have also been connected to Kemp and they could look at a deal after losing Nick Markakis in free agency. The Dodgers have a new general manager and head of baseball operations and now they could finally pull the trigger on an outfielder.
The Dodgers may also look at moving Zack Greinke, as the team reportedly has looked into Jon Lester and possibly signing him as a free agent. Hardball Talk reports that the Dodgers could look at signing Lester while moving Greinke, as he has an opt out after this season and is expected to use it. The Dodgers likely will not make this move, but there is a chance that something could come together at the winter meetings.
