The Cleveland Cavaliers are on a winning streak and with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love getting into a groove, the Cavs could look at making some trades to helps strengthen the roster, as names like Tayshaun Prince, Corey Brewer, Timofey Mozgov and Jeff Green could be potential targets if the team looks at moving Tristan Thompson or Dion Waiters.
The Cavaliers reportedly checked into Corey Brewer earlier in the season after getting off to a slow start and Mozgov was mentioned as a target in reports over the summer. According to ESPN Cleveland, reporter Brian Windhorst said that the Cavaliers could look into trading for Tayshaun Prince from the Memphis Grizzlies, as he has been pushed out of the rotation for the Grizz and could be moved by the team. Memphis has been one of the best teams in the league and they could look at making a swap with the Cavaliers for a player who fits in the rotation.
Windhorst said that the Cavaliers have been interested in making a trade since the summer and that while they are not in a rush to make a deal, they will likely pull one off at the trading deadline. The team has a trade exception to work with and Windhorst said the Cavs likely will look at making a deal between December 15 and January 10, as the early date is when players that signed in the offseason can get moved. Windhorst said that the Cavs could be interested in Price, as he is a skilled defender and a veteran.
Earlier this season Marc Stein reported that Brewer was a target for the Cavaliers and the Houston Rockets, while Mozgov also was a potential option for Cleveland. Stein tweeted last month that the Cavaliers are still debating where they want to add depth and that they were going to wait and see how the roster develops together. The team has started to play better overall and with more consistency and Stein later added that the Cavs are deciding whether to look at adding wing depth with someone like Brewer or if they should go with a big man up front. Kevin Love has been playing well, but defense isn't his best skill and all playoff teams need depth up front, which makes Mozgov still a target.
Prince is a defensive specialist like Mozgov and while he is not a center he still could be an upgrade on the roster for rebounding help. The Cavs kpw veterans with experience are important if they want to make a playoff run and that is why they signed Shawn Marion and Mike Miller. Mozgov is on a team friendly deal and the Nuggets likely will want someone like Waiters or Thompson. Windhorst reports that the Grizzlies likely would want Thompson in the deal and it comes as he is heading into restricted free agency, which makes it a tough decision for the Cavs.
The Cavaliers are now 11-7 and they are on a five game winning streak heading into their game against the Brooklyn Nets.
