MLB Trade Rumors 2012: Los Angeles Dodgers Acquire Brandon League From the Seattle Mariners for Two Minor Leaguers

Jul 31, 2012 06:26 AM EDT

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made another splash before Wednesday's 4 p.m. trading deadline. This time they traded for right hander Brandon League of the Seattle Mariners for two minor leaguers.

League who was one of the saves leaders in 2011, has only nine saves this season. He has six blown saves and a 0-5 record in 2012.

For the Dodgers, however, this is an upgrade because the get a pitcher with a defined role in their bullpen. So far in 2012, closing has come as a collective as Don Mattingly and Los Angeles have tried using multiple pitchers in the closer role.

L.A.'s closer the first day of the 2012 season was Javy Guerra. He has eight saves this season, five of which came in consecutive manner when the season began. He had seven saves and two blown saves in the first month of baseball and earned his last save on May 6th.

From then on Kenley Jansen has taken over the closer role in L.A. He has 20 saves, five blown saves and a 4-3 record with a 1.89 ERA.

The last time League closed a game was on May 23rd against the Texas Rangers. Since then, he has three blown saves and six holds.

The Dodgers already possess the fourth best bullpen in the MLB. Adding Brandon League to the mix will only give them a solid and more dependable staff.

L.A. is currently tied for first place with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have yet to make a splash, but following the Dodgers' last two moves it may be required that they grab a bat to help their offense.
