With rumors swirling of the Los Angeles Dodgers not having enough parts to acquire Ryan Dempster and Theo Epstein very willing to trade for the right hander, the New York Yankees are front runners in the Dempster Sweepstakes.
The Dodgers have made a lot of moves in the past 24-hours that depleted them of possible players to trade to the Chicago Cubs for Dempster.
As of now, the Yankees simply have to add a good piece to the trade and satisfy Theo Epsteins taste.
Ryan Dempster has already agreed to being moved to the Yankees if the deal goes down. He rejected a trade to the Atlanta Braves because he really wanted to play in Los Angeles.
Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman have both reported that Dempster's willingness to move to New York comes in part because his former GM John Hendry, who is now a special assignment scout for the Yankees, and former pitching coach Larry Rothschild are both already representing pinstripes.
Another possible reason why Dempster is said to agree to be traded is because he already said no once, making it difficult to say no again.
The trade deadline is less than 90 minutes away from wrapping up. With a pitcher like Dempster in their rotation, the New York Yankees would immediately become favorites to win the World Series, if Mark Teixeira's injury does not create too much of a problem on offense.
