The Washington Redskins may look at a trade with RG3 after this season, as Robert Griffin III has not played well and his future is up in the air and if the Redskins make a move, teams like the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Chicago Bears could be interested in acquiring the QB.
Griffin was benched for Colt McCoy this season and moving forward Jay Gruden may not want Griffin as the starter, as he sees him as more of a project quarterback. Griffin has not been the same player since dealing with knee injuries over the past two seasons and according to most scouts, he has regressed from his 2012 campaign. Griffin was electric that season, winning rookie of the year and taking his team to the playoffs. But now with a contract option coming up for well over $10 million, the Redskins have a major decision to make regarding Griffin.
The Redskins have been totally embarrassed the past few weeks, as they have benched their star player and have lost games in terrible fashion. The team was totally beaten by the Rams last week and before that they had a matchup with the Colts, which was also embarrassing for many reasons. The team picked Griffin right after Andrew Luck when they picked RG3 and in this game against that player, Griffin was on the sidelines. Griffin was benched for that game, while Luck is on his way to another playoff appearance.
The Redskins were embarrassed on Sunday when the Rams sent out the six players acquired in the RG3 deal as the captains at the coin toss and now they are moving forward with tons of questions. The Redskins have Colt McCoy starting on Sunday for Griffin again and while there is a chance that Griffin could start again, it looks like his future will be elsewhere. The Redskins have to decide whether they want to stick with Griffin long term, as they have an option to pick up soon and that could be for a ton of money and could be more than the team is willing to commit.
The Redskins could look to trade Griffin and if they do that, they likely will ask for quite a bit, as they gave up a ton for him. Nothing has been confirmed, but the Washington Post has written numerous times that Gruden is "done" with Griffin and that could set up a battle between head coach and the front office. If the team looks at making a deal, the Raiders could be an option, while the Buccaneers, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans are expected to make moves at the QB position as well.
The Redskins come into this week with a 3-10 record and they are in the bottom of the NFC East once again. The team is ranked 10th in the league in passing yards per game and 22nd in rushing yards per game and they have now lost five straight games since winning back to back matchups with the Titans and the Cowboys. Griffin is an electric talent, but his future may be elsewhere from DC.
