The Chicago Bears may look at a Jay Cutler trade this offseason after the way the team has performed and while that is an extreme move, many have been frustrated by his play and this comes as Brandon Marshall was placed on IR with an injury, meaning that Marquess Wilson now is the best fantasy football start option in the playoffs for owners in Week 15 from this team.
Cutler has been up and down this season and now some discord has gone public within the team, as a new report detailed how offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer criticized Cutler to an NFL Network reporter and later apologized to the team for it. According to the Chicago Tribune, Kromer spoke to the team this week and admitted to the players that he was the source in an NFL Network report from Ian Rapoport saying that the team was frustrated with Cutler.
That report also had a source saying that the team had "buyer's remorse" after signing Cutler to a seven-year, $126.7 million contract earlier in the year. Kromer admitted that he let his frustrations get the best of him, but that he did not say the team was remorseful about the contract. The report said that Kromer had been upset with the game management of Cutler and that Cutler has refused to "check out" of bad plays at various times this season.
ESPN.com followed up on the story and reported that Kromer "tearfully apologized" to the team last week in a meeting, which included Cutler. The report added that Cutler did not seem pleased during the apology, "shaking his head" as Kromer spoke. The report added that Cutler has no trust with anyone in the franchise right now and it comes as Cutler is leading the league in turnovers. Cutler has 21 turnovers this season and opponents have scored nearly 100 points off those turnovers.
Cutler has been injury prone in his time with the Bears and over the years many have called him out for his seemingly blasé attitude and issues related to those injuries. Over the past three seasons with the Bears Cutler has missed 11 games and in his five seasons with the team, he has only played in all 16 games once. Cutler has thrown double digit interceptions in each of the past two seasons and in two of the past three years he has been completing less than 60 percent of his passes.
Marshall is out for the season and is on IR after dealing with an injury last week and Marquess Wilson will get the chance to step up into the starting lineup with Alshon Jeffery. Marshall suffered lung and ribs injuries and now Wilson will get a look against a bad Saints defense and he could be worth a start for owners in the playoffs. Wilson had 82 catches for 1,388 yards in college before last season and this year he has just five catches for 40 yards in four games played. Last season Wilson ended with two catches in nine games for 13 yards.
Cutler would be a target for a number of teams around the league even with his massive contract, as the Texans, Buccaneers and Jets all could be making changes. The Jets could go for a veteran since they may be too big of a mess for a rookie, while the Buccaneers now have Cutler's former head coach in Lovie Smith.
