NY Giants Rumors: Tom Coughlin Not Fired for Bill Cowher After Odell Beckham, Eli Manning Help Win Over Redskins Week 15?

Dec 15, 2014 09:33 AM EST

The NY Giants may have saved the job of Tom Coughlin with a win on Sunday against the Washington Redskins in Week 15, as many have called for him to be fired with New York struggling and now the team has won two straight behind the play of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham, who is likely to win the offensive rookie of the year after the way he has played.

The Giants and Redskins played tight for most of the game, but New York was able to pull away towards the end and one of the main reasons was because of Odell Beckham. Manning has been sharp over the past couple weeks and now the Giants are 5-9 on the year and this little streak could help keep Coughlin's job. The media and many of the fans in New York have been frustrated with Coughlin, but it would be tough to bring in a new head coach after all he has done for the franchise. Bill Cowher has been mentioned for years as a potential option, but he has made no attempt to leave TV since leaving the Steelers.

Manning is having a bounce back season after the way he played last year and the addition of Beckham has been one of the main reasons why. Beckham has played very well since coming back from a hamstring injury and he has been able to step in with Victor Cruz out for the season. Manning and others with the Giants have spoken about having Cruz and Beckham healthy at the same time and that could be transformative for this team next season.

Andre Williams has played well as a rookie and Rashad Jennings was having a strong season before getting hurt early on. Manning and the Giants have dealt with a ton of injuries and if they bounce back next season, they could easily be in the playoffs despite going just 5-9 this year. Beckham may have the chance to win rookie of the year, as he has been fantastic over the past two months, leading all WRs in that span. Beckham had 12 catches on Sunday in the Giants win over Washington and that was his third 10-catch, 100-yard game in the past four weeks.

Beckham now has 972 yards this season and he would be the first rookie to put up 1,000 yards in a season. Beckham broke out big with his amazing catch against the Cowboys and now he is averaging eight catches and over 120 yards in the past seven games. Beckham had 59 catches coming into the game on Sunday with six touchdowns and now he could be getting to double digits soon with three more TD grabs against the Redskins.

Beckham has beaten division opponents and he also played well against Richard Sherman. Beckham has been as impressive as anyone on the Giants this season and if Coughlin sticks around with Jerry Reese, the rookie WR will be one of the reasons why. The Giants are 5-9 and they end the season on the road against the Rams and at home against the Eagles in Weeks 16 and 17.
