Even after the 2012 baseball deadline is over the Los Angeles Dodgers are still making moves within their organization as they have released Bobby Abreu to make space for their newly acquired outfielder, Shane Victorino.
Abreu, who had been traded by the Los Angeles Angels because he wanted more playing time, struggled in 70 games with the Dodgers. He hit .251 with 2 home runs and 17 RBI.
For Abreu it was a case of not knowing when to call it quits. He developed into an above average hitter in the late 90's with the Philadelphia Phillies. He had solid seasons of production with the New York Yankees in the late 2000's and then fell off last season as his power numbers and production simply were not up to par.
The Dodgers had no other choice but to designate the outfielder to assignment after picking up their new outfielder, Shane Victorino from the Phillies.
Victorino will make his debut as a Dodger today as they face the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are close behind in the National League West.
The Dodgers traded for Victorino in hopes of revamping their lineup and surrounding their star players, Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp with speed in the lineup.
With Hanley Ramirez having a great start to his Dodgers career, Victorino could add a dangerous bat and speed to the lineup, which could have the Dodgers taking over the NL West.
