Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor remain undefeated in the preliminaries of the Women's Beach Volleyball event in the 2012 London Olympic Games as they defeated Austrians Stefanie Schwaiger and Doris Schwaiger in three sets 17-21, 21-8, 15-10
The combination of Walsh Jennings and May-Treanor struggled midly in the first set as the Austrians took a quick 7-1 lead. The Americans attempted making a comeback, but it was cut short. The closest they got to Austria's duo was by two when the score was 14-12.
Maybe they did not get enough sleep or they ate something that affected their performance right before the match, but they were unlike themselves.
Then the second set began and they began playing like the dynamic duo that won gold in the 2008 Beijing Games.
With the score 9-6, they won the set on a 12-2 run.
The third set was pretty close as no team led by more than four points half way into the set. WIth the score 12-10, Walsh-Jennings and May Treanor went on a 3-0 run and the match was over.
The duo of Walsh Jennigs and May-Treanor will not begin to prepare for the quarterfinals. Their opponents have yet to be named, but quarterfinal play begins on August 3rd.
