The Dallas Mavericks have pulled off a trade for Rajon Rondo with the Boston Celtics and now the team is a contender in the west after beating out the Houston Rockets, LA Lakers and NY Knicks to acquire the star point guard.
The Mavericks made the move and now Mark Cuban has another reason to poke his in-state rivals in the Rockets, as they had hoped to trade for Rondo as well. Rondo now joins the top offensive team in the league and this comes after Cuban signed Chandler Parsons away from the Rockets in the offseason.
The Rockets had long been interested in Rondo and last season Morey tried to initiate a deal between the Celtics and Rockets and while no trade went through, the deals were rumored about all through the deadline. The Rockets likely would have had to move Jeremy Lin at the time to get one of those max players.
The Rockets were one of the highest scoring teams in the league this season, but they were defeated in the playoffs by the Blazers after nearly forcing a game 7 matchup. The team scored the go ahead basket with a layup from Chandler Parsons with less than a second left, but on the return play, Parsons could not keep up with Damian Lillard and he hit the series ending shot at the buzzer and now the Rockets are looking towards next season.
Rondo missed half the season last year after coming back from ACL surgery and he looked good on the floor despite playing on a very bad Celtics team and while he is the lone star on this quad, he still had a respectable line of 11 points per game with nine assists and five rebounds per game while playing in 30 games. Rondo made $12 million last season.
