For the next two weeks, the Washington Redskins are Robert Griffin III's team. With Colt McCoy out for the season with a neck injury and Kirk Cousins struggles, Griffin is in charge for the rest of the season. However, the question remains as to whether or not that will be the case come next season or not. The Redskins have a lot of offseason issues to address when the year is over and the quarterback spot will take priority. However, Michael Vick believes he has the answer to the team's issue.
Vick told the media this week that he would love to play for the Washington Redskins next season. Vick is a Virginia native who grew up loving the Redskins, so the idea of playing in Washington is certainly enticing.
"That's home," said Vick, via Newsday.com. "That's home for me. Don't get me excited. Don't get me excited. I'm open to playing for anybody that wants to win. But obviously, going back home, I mean, that'll be a dream come true. But I would hate to get my hopes up for something that wouldn't happen. So I can't even think about it right now."
Vick is still very confident in his abilities as a quarterback despite getting benched for Geno Smith late in the season. The quarterback will turn 35 before the start of the 2015 season and is hoping to get signed to his third team in three years. Vick lucked into a one-year deal with the New York Jets to mentor Smith, but ended seeing a brief amount of playing time that brought up mixed reviews. Understanding that he will likely not be back in the Big Apple, Vick remains confident that he can still be a starter for an NFL team.
"I can be the face of any franchise,'' Vick said. "Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for me in 2015. And that's what I'm looking forward to.''
Vick told the media that he has talked with good friend DeSean Jackson about reuniting in Washington after the two palyed together in Philadelphia. Vick also confirmed the idea that the Jets are eyeing drafting Marcus Mariota, a rookie quarterback he has a lot of respect for. The New York Daily News reported the Jets were favoring drafting Mariota over Jameis Winston or another free agent. Vick supports the idea.
"I didn't know,'' Vick said. "But he also needs to know I'm a big fan of his as well. I've seen film of him with [former Oregon coach] Chip Kelly when I was learning his system [in Philadelphia], and I almost knew. I can look at a guy and know whether he's going to be a star in college or the NFL. I knew he would have an opportunity.''
