Day 6 of swimming at the 2012 Olympics in London got underway early on Thursday morning as athletes attempted to advance in their respective events. Missy Franklin, 17-year-old American, and Elizabeth Beisel continued to perform at high levels as they both advanced to the Women's 200m Backstroke.
There was drama in the Men's 100m Butterfly. Michael Phelps was once again beaten in one of his top events as South African Chad le Clos challenged Phelps in the heats. The South African finished .18 seconds ahead of Phelps and Phelps finished .12 seconds ahead of third place finisher Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia.
More drama awaits viewers in the Men's 100m Butterfly as German Benjamin Starke and Takeshi Matsuda will have a swim-off to find out who moves on into the semifinals taking place later on Thursday afternoon.
Great Britain's Rebecca Adlington finished in first in the Women's 800m Freestyle. The final will go down in the afternoon.
Trinidad and Tobago's George Richard Bovell finished ahead of both Brazilian's Cesar Cielo and Bruno Fratus.
