Serena Williams, Veronica Azarenka and Maria Kirilink find themselves competing in the semifinals after victories on Thursday morning as the 2012 Women's Singles Olympic Querterfinals took place.
The first Women's Semifinalist was Azarenka who faced Germany's Angelique Kerber. Azarenka won the match in two straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
Azarenka took a huge lead in the first set, going up 4-1. Kerber then bounced back and who three consecutive games before folding the last two.
The last game took Azarenka some time to complete as Kerber once again put up a fight, this time she did not let Azarenka take a 3-0 set lead.
Kerber rallied back from 3-1 and tied the set up at three games. Azarenka cut her momentum by winning two straight games. Kerber tied the match at five buying herself more life. Azarenka then put the match away in the 11th and 12th games, eventually taking the second set.
Serena Williams continued to dominate as she faced Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. Williams won in two straight games 6-0, 6-3 as she never allowed Wozniacki to build any momentum.
Williams finished the match with 6 aces and had 30 winners compared to her opponent's seven.
She is now scheduled to face Azarenka (1) in the Women's Semifinals.
Viewers witnessed an upset in the third match of the Women's Quarterfinals. Miria Kirilinko (14) beat the sixth ranked Petra Kvitova in two straight sets 7-6, 6-3.
She forced a tiebreaker in the 12th game. Kirilinko then took 7 of the 10 points in the tiebreaker for the first set.
The second set looked like it was headed down the same path as Kvitova matched every one of Kirilinko's points. After the seventh game, Kirilinko went on a streak to close out the match.
She is awaiting an opponent as Belgium's Kim Clijsters faces Maria Sharapova after the Roger Federer and John Isner match is done in Centre Court.
