The Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers are playing live on the NBA schedule on Tuesday and the matchup from Quicken Loans Arena is the first game for Kevin Love against his old team and he will join LeBron James on the court against the Wolves as things start at 7 pm ET and it will be on NBATV as the Cavs try and keep things going ahead of the Miami Heat on Christmas Day.
The Cavaliers come into the game after an impressive win over the Grizzlies and now they matchup with the Wolves ahead of the Miami Heat game. The matchup with Miami is the most anticipated game on Christmas and it has James going back to South Beach for the first time since leaving. Wade and others have said James should get a nice ovation, but the Miami fans have shown their sports intelligence is low, so they likely will boo, which is wrong on so many levels.
James comes in leading the team in scoring and he had 25 points and 11 assists in the matchup against the Grizzlies, while Love had eight rebounds. The team is ranked just 25th in rebounding this season and that is why they are looking to make one trade for a big man. The offense has been solid and is averaging 102 points per game, while the defense is ranked 14th in points allowed this season. The team is ranked eighth in assists and that is a huge improvement from where the team was earlier in the season.
The team comes in at 16-10 and they are currently second in the central division behind the Bulls. The team matches up with Miami next and this comes after they take on the 5-21 Wolves and that will be at home. Love said he has no issues facing his old team and that the big matchup will be when he returns to Minnesota after he forced the trade to the Cavs. Love had the right to do this and while Wolves fans will be mad, the team was stuck in mediocrity for years and all he has wanted is to play for a winning team.
The Wolves come into the game after a loss against the Pacers and that matchup saw Mo Williams lead with 24 points and 10 assists. Andrew Wiggins was the player traded for Love along with Anthony Bennett and he led the way with nine rebounds. The Wolves will next play against the Nuggets on the road and they are currently ranked 20th in points per game and 29th in points allowed.
James and the Cavaliers will not be looking towards the Miami game, as they know the Wolves have some talent. James and his team know that the matchup in South Beach will be a big one and that is front and center for the schedule and is part of a big day of games with the Bulls and Knicks also in action with the Lakers. Miami has the chance to get moving in the right direction and a win over the Cavs could be big.
