The NY Giants had zero players voted to the Pro Bowl for the 2014 season, but they did get rookie Odell Beckham Jr. as a first alternate and that means New York likely will have representation and this comes as the latest reports saying Tom Coughlin will not be fired after the season despite the G-Men missing the playoffs again.
The Giants have won three straight games since dropping seven in a row and they have gotten some great play from Beckham, with the rookie looking like the favorite for offensive rookie of the year. The New York Post wrote last week that Coughlin's job was safe and that he would return to coach the Giants in 2015. Beckham has been one of the main reasons why the team has "saved" Coughlin's job, as they have won three games and he has emerged as a star.
Beckham is leading all rookie receivers in the major categories and he is looking like one of the best among this class, which also includes Kelvin Benjamin and Mike Evans. The Giants struck out on the Pro Bowl this year along with the Jaguars, Titans and Vikings, but it's likely that Beckham makes the team with players usually sitting out for injuries or the Super Bowl.
Beckham has 79 catches for 1120 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 11 games this season and he has been the number one target for Eli Manning since coming into the lineup. Beckham got healthy just as the Giants lost Victor Cruz and he has emerged as a playmaker, putting up six 100-yard games this season in limited time. Beckham now has the chance to come back next season and play alongside Victor Cruz and that will be huge for Eli Manning, who had a bounce back season after tossing 27 picks last year.
Manning has 3981 yards and 29 touchdowns this season and apart from one four interception game, he has been mostly consistent taking care of the football. The team ranks in the top 10 in passing yards per game this season and Beckham is now leading the team in receiving yards and receptions. The new Ban McAdoo offense has been mostly successful and should only get better next year.
The Giants are 6-9 after dealing with a seven game winning streak and now they have won three in a row heading into the final game against the Eagles. Philly is out of the playoffs as well and now the Giants have the chance to finish 3-3 in the division. Coughlin is likely to stay, as the Giants brought in over 20 new players, dealt with tons of injuries and had to adjust to a new offense this season. All that adds up to more time for this coach and Jerry Reese should be back as well after hitting on picks Andre Williams, Beckham and Devon Kennard in the draft this year.
