The women played on Thursday and there aer four left in the Women's Singles at the 2012 London Olympics. No. 1 ranked Veronica Azarenka is still alive and she is joined by Maria Sharapova (3) Serena Williams (4) and Maria Kirilenko (14).
It is crazy to believe that, based on the rankings, Serena is the third best semifinalists. Her tennis has spoken for her, however, and she is playing it at a very high level.
Centre Court- Serena Williams vs. Victoria Azarenka 9 a.m. ET/2 p.m. GMT
Serena has barely broken a sweat as she has cruised through her first four rounds. Her opponents have not won more than three games in a set and she has shut out two sets. Caroline Wozniacki witnessed this first hand as she did not win a game in the first set on Thursday against Serena and only won three in the second and final set of the match.
Azarenka has not rolled over her opponets the way Serena has. She has played a tiebreaker and played a third set in the first round. Regardless, Azarenka has to be respected since she is not the No. 1 ranked in the Olympics for no reason.
Serena and Azarenka met in Wimbledon in July and Williams was the victory in that match. Serena will look to repeat the performance, while Azarenka will look to change her fortunes.
Court No. 1- Maria Sharapova vs. Maria Kirilenko 9 a.m. ET/2 p.m. GMT
This will be the battle of the Maria's, the Russians and 25-year-olds. Sharapova comes into the match as the favorite, but Kirilenko has prove that rankings are just a number. Nobody expected Kirilenko to make it this far into the tournament. She defeated No. 6 ranked Petra Kvitova to get into the semifinals.
