The New York Giants will miss the playoffs again this season under Tom Coughlin, but moving into 2015 this is a team to watch, as they will have Victor Cruz healthy alongside Odell Beckham and Eli Manning and a rebound into the postseason is not out of the question.
The Giants have missed the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl but they are moving in the right direction after losing seven straight games earlier in the season. The team now has won three straight games heading into the season finale against Philadelphia, which gives New York chance for revenge after getting shut out on the road earlier in the season. Beckham is playing at a very high-level and he currently is the favorite for offense of rookie of the year.
Manning has had a bounce back season after throwing way too many interceptions last year and he has adjusted well to the new offensive system under Ben McAdoo. Losing Cruz was devastating for the team but the emergence of Beckham has given the Giants an explosive playmaker at receiver. Beckham should win rookie of the year and he comes in with an impressive 79 catches for 1120 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 11 games this season.
Manning and Beckham have found a groove and he showed against the Cowboys that he can make any catch, including on balls with one hand while he's falling backwards. That was the play of the year for many and now the Giants have a receiver they can build with. The offense should only get better as Manning gets more used to it and with the team putting over 20 players on IR this year, there's no way things will be that bad next season.
If Cruz comes back healthy and the team doesn't have such bad luck on injuries, there is a good chance they can make the playoffs. The team is 6-9 right now and they should have a better schedule than they did this year and that could also be big for them returning to the postseason. The NY Post reports that Coughlin is safe for this season and that means making the playoffs next year is even more important.
The Giants schedule has the divisional home games and other matchups at MetLife include the Falcons, Patriots, Jets as well as the Panthers and either the Niners or the Rams. Things could be worse there and the team has the divisional games along with the Dolphins, Saints, Buccaneers, Bills and the Bears or the Vikings on the road in 2015. That is manageable and Eli Manning could really continue the turnaround next year.
