The NY Giants may have some major changes in 2015, but Tom Coughlin is likely not one of them, as the coach is expected to return next year despite missing the playoffs, while defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul may end up leaving in free agency if New York doesn't make sign him to a new contract.
Pierre-Paul is one of the top free agents for the Giants this offseason and after having two down seasons he has bounced back in 2014. Pierre-Paul has 10.5 sacks this season and he has come on over the last quarter of the schedule and now he will be looking to get paid in the offseason. According to ESPN New York, Pierre-Paul said that he thinks he is "worth a lot of money" and that will be the big issue for the Giants, as Pierre-Paul has struggled at times over the past few seasons.
In 2011, Pierre-Paul had a breakout season with 16.5 sacks and the Giants rode him to a Super Bowl, but after that time he has been up and down, with 2014 being his best season since. Pierre-Paul will be 26 next season and he is a former 2010 first round draft pick for the Giants. Jerry Reese picked Pierre-Paul and he has turned out to be one of his better selections, some of which include players from this year's draft, including Andre Williams and Odell Beckham.
The Giants signed a number of new players last year in the offseason and now Pierre-Paul is headed towards free agency. The team has drafted Damontre Moore and Jonathan Hankins on the defensive line over the past couple years and that has helped to replace players like Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. Pierre-Paul said that he feels he is entering into his prime and he comes in with 40 sacks in his career. Pierre-Paul has been in double digits twice in his career and his toughest season was last year when he had just two sacks in 11 games played while dealing with injuries.
Coughlin is expected to return despite the Giants missing the playoffs for the third straight season, as they have finished strong and are headed in the right direction. Coughlin has been in danger of losing his job before and with the Giants going through a tough season with injuries and introducing a new offense, it's unlikely John Mara makes a major move. According to Steve Serby at the New York Post, Coughlin is nearly certain to return, with sources saying that it was "99 percent" that he would be back.
Beckham has been one of the top reasons why the Giants have bounced back at the end of the season, as he has 79 receptions for 1120 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 11 games. Beckham dealt with a hamstring injury early in the season and he returned just as the Giants lost Victor Cruz.
