Serena Williams once again cruised by her opponent as she defeated No. 1 ranked Victoria Azarenka in the Women's Singles' Semifinals on Friday evening in the 2012 London Olympics. Serena captured the win in two straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

After a long battle between Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro, this quick performance was the best thing to happen in the Men's and Women's singles.

Serena came into the Olympics ranked fourth. With a dominating victory, Serena once again looks like the favorite to capture gold.

It is an important step in the 15-year veteran's career. She has never won gold in the Olympics for Women's Singles and after her near flawless performance on Friday, she placed herself one win away from accomplishing the feat.

Despite being almost ten years older than the 23-year-old Azarenka, Williams demonstrated she can compete with the up and coming talent in tennis. At times, she would slap the ball with effortless preciseness.

In the last game, as she was down 40-30, she simply waived at the ball and sent a backhand down the line out of the reach of Azarenka.

Azarenka managed to remain alive in the second set winning the sevent game, but Serena put the match away when she took serve. The second set wrapped up 6-2 as Serena started the game out with two consecutive aces and closed out the match with an ace as she held the advantage on match point.

Williams will now face Maria Sharapova in the Women's Single Finals. Both players will now have gold on their minds.
