In third place, Japan has a total of 21; 2 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals. Great Britain trails them with 20; 7 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze.
Russia has 20 and have jumped to 5th place. They own 3 gold with 9 silver and 8 bronze medals.
Serena Williams once again cruised by her opponent as she defeated No. 1 ranked Victoria Azarenka in the Women's Singles' Semifinals on Friday evening in the 2012 London Olympics. Serena captured the win in two straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Azarenka managed to remain alive in the second set winning the sevent game, but Serena put the match away when she took serve. The second set wrapped up 6-2 as Serena started the game out with two consecutive aces and closed out the match with an ace as she held the advantage on match point.
Williams will now face Maria Sharapova in the Women's Single Finals. Both players will now have gold on their minds.
It is an important step in the 15-year veteran's career. She has never won gold in the Olympics for Women's Singles and now has placed herself one win away from accomplishing the feat.
