Aug 04, 2012 06:28 AM EDT

The Men's Soccer semifinals will kickoff pn Saturday with Japan vs. Egypt at 7 a.m.ET/12 p.m. GMT in the London 2012 Olympics.

Japan finished in first place in the Group D pool beating out Honduras, Morocco and, the heavy favorite to repeat as gold medalists, Spain. Japan collected seven points in three matches played. They finished with two wins and one loss.

Momentum built for them in the first game of the Olympic matches as they defeated Spain in the first match of the Men's Soccer event.

Egypt came in second place in Group C behind Brazil. Egypt won one match, lost one and tied one, which gave them the four points the earned in the qualifiers. They won in their last match against Belarus, which was good enough to qualify for the semifinals.

Both teams will have to bring their best game on Saturday as the loser will automatically go home. Since Japan finished in first place in their pool, they are the favorite in this match.

However, Egypt packs the heavier offense. Japan only scored two goals in their three matches. Their victories are based on their tough defense as they have not allowed a goal during the qualifiers. On the contrary, Egypt's defense is very weak as they have allowed five goals in competition.

It will be interesting to see how the matchup plays out since each team's strengths lie in the other one's weakness.
