Roger Federer and Andy Murray will meet in the Men's Singles Finals at the 2012 Olympics on Sunday. It is the second time they will meet in Wimbledon in the past two months.
The last time they met in Wimbledon, Federer walked out with the victory and the title. Murray ended in second place.
Both players will for sure win a medal, but they will be after gold for the first time. Federer has never won gold in singles competition and neither has Murray.
So far in the Olympics, Federer and Murray have looked good and dominant in most of their performances.
Federer played Alejando Falla in the first round and won in three sets. In the second round he met Julien Benneteau and won easily in two sets. Denis Istomin crossed paths with Federer in the third round and lost in two rounds. American John Isner looked capable of beating Federer, but his game faded at the end of both sets.
The toughest challenge Federer faced was Juan Martin del Potro. Federer lost the first round 3-6, then barely stayed alive in the second game as they took it to a tie breaker. Then the third sent went over two hours and Federer won 19/17.
Murray had an easier ride, especially since he never had a set that went two hours long. He breezed by Stanislas Wawrinka, Federer's doubles partner. He crushed Jarkko Nieminen in two sets, went to three sets Marcos Baghdatis. Destroyed Nicolas Almagro and then put away the 2nd ranked tennis player in the Olympics Novak Djokovic. Murray won both games 7-5, 7-5.
The action starts tomorrow at approximately 9 a.m. ET/2 p.m. GMT. They will play in Centre Court after the Women's Doubles championship.
