A rematch of the Wimbledon men's final is on tap in tennis Saturday. Last month, Roger Federer topped Great Britain's Andy Murray in four sets for his seventh Wimbledon title and 17th career grand slam victory.
Federer beat Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 a month ago at Wimbledon.
This is Federer's first shot at a medal. Now he has guaranteed himself an Olympic medal to hang alongside all those shiny plaques and plates in his trophy case. But gold would be all the sweeter for the Swiss star as he takes on Murray three days before his 31st birthday.
Murray overcame Novak Djokovic to reach his first Olympic final, and may finally have everything lined up in his favor to win big.
"It's been an amazing month and one of the best of my career," Murray said. "The support that I have had over the last month, after Wimbledon, I really needed it. All the times that I have lost in a Grand Slam final, I've had a tough time afterward for a few months. But coming here with the motivation of playing in the Olympics and with the support that I have had has been all the motivation that I needed."
Murray is also excited and confident t be playing Federer once more.
"Playing against Roger is always tough," said Murray. "I've had some good wins against him and some tough losses. I will have learned from the Wimbledon match - I'll look and talk with my team about that match and the tactics for going into Sunday.
"I want to try to win. I don't think going into matches trying to get revenge for something that's happened in the past really helps. I think you need to try and focus on the future.
"It's going to be a tough match. I'll need to play great tennis to win. I hope it's a great match because the way the semi-finals went, the tournament deserves a great final. I hope we can provide that."
