Andy Murray is the Men's Singles gold medal winner after the Scottish defeated Switzerland's Roger Federer in two sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.

Murray took advantage of Federer's sluggishness throughout the match.

At first however, he looked incapable of taking advantage of serving first.

Switzerland's Federer jumped out to a 40-15 lead, making Federer look absolutely dominant. Murray rallied back to get the first game to a deuce. He held the advantage after Federer rushed to the net and Murray sent a screamer past him. Murray won the first game.

Federer did not waste time matching the score as he won four consecutive points to tie the set at one, but Federer had few highlights in this match as he continued unsuccessfully running to the net as Murray kept blowing backhands and forehands past him. Murray also kept Federer active running side to side, weakening Federer's powerful forehands and backhands. He won the second game as Federer was unable to handle Murray's dynamic serve.

Murray took a 5-2 game lead in the first set as Federer did not capitalize on Murray's unforced errors. Meanwhile Murray exposed Federer off balance constantly throughout the match.

Murray had the set point and slapped a backhand down the baseline to take the point and the first set.

Federer continued to look sluggish and was in trouble early. It seemed like the Juan Martin del Potro match had taken a toll on the veteran.

The Scottish player served first and immediately took a 1-0 lead in the set and made crafty moves in the second set, spoiling Federer's ability to tie and took a 2-0 lead.

After a 15 minute third game, the tides seem to have changed, but Murray weathered the storm and took the 3-0 lead in the second set. Murray then took the fourth game of the set on a double fault by Federer.

With a 40-30 lead, Murray won the fifth game on an unforced error by Federer, takinga 5-0 lead.

Federer finally won a game in the second set taking the sixth set.
Murray wrapped up the set on a backhand.

Both players exchanged points in the third set with Federer taking the lead. In the fifth game, while Federer was on serve, Murray threatened to take control of the set. And he did.

With a flurry of backhands, Murray pinned Federer in the back of the court end Federer could not put enough on the return, giving Murray the game and the 3-2 advantage in the set.

Murray won four straight points in the sixth game and took a 4-2 lead in the set with a dazzling forehand. Federer won the seventh game.

Up against the wall with Murray just a game away from victory, Federer served and won four straight points making the match 5-4.

The fans roared as Murray took the court ready to serve and he won the final game to capture the gold.

This is Murray's first gold medal, meanwhile Federer looks like he might go through his career without capturing one in singles tournament.
