The 2012 London Olympics are seven days away from completion and China continues to control the top spot with 61 total medals. The United States of America is in a very close second place with 60 medals. The Olympic hosts, Great Britain, are in a distant third place with 37 total medals.
China has a two-gold medal lead over the U.S. The People's Republic of China has captured 30 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals. They seem to be a country on a mission as in 2008, China hosted the Olympics in Beijing and came in a close second place behind the U.S. as they were edged 110-100.
They are proving dominant in 2012 as they have consistently led the U.S. throughout the Olympics.
USA has 28 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze medals. More than half of those gold medals came via swimming. Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin highlighted the U.S. swimming events, guiding the team to gold.
Great Britain, who just had Andy Murray win the Men's Singles gold medal, is in third place. They have captured 16 gold medals, 11 silver and 10 bronze.
If ranked by gold, Korea is in fourth place with 10 gold medals. They have a total of 20. France rounds out the top five of gold medals captured with 8. They have won 25 in total.
Russia has won a total of 35 medals, but only four are gold. Meanwhile Japan has the fifth highest total amount of gold medals with 27. They have only captured two gold medals.
