Olympics 2012 Men's Indoor Volleyball: USA Beats Tunisia, Taking First Place in Group B

The United States has defeated Tunisia in Group B matchup on Monday to take their seat in first place in the Group B standings. 

Through five games they have tallied 4 wins and only one loss, while winning 14 of the 18 sets they have played in Olympic competition. They surpassed Russia, the former first place holder, with 13 points. Russia had tallied 11 points through their five games of competition. 

The U.S. team put the first set to rest early. After the game was tied at three, the U.S. went on a 7-0 run to take the 10-3 advantage. They then went on a 6-1 run where they built a 10-point lead. The score by now was 17-7. Tunisia scored three unaswered points making it a 17-10 matchup. Both teams exchanged points until the U.S. scored on back-to-back serves making it a 22-13 game. The set ended on a fault by the Tunisian's. 

The second set was much more of a match at the start of the game. The U.S. could only manage to distance themselves by a couple of points. Tunisia hung with them until they could not handle a spike from Matthew Anders and two David Smith serves, which gave Team USA a 13-8 lead. 

Tunisia lost steam at the end of the set when the U.S. went on a 4-0 run, distancing themselves by eight points. Anderson put the set away with a spike that could not be handled by Noureddine Hfaiedh.

By the tird set, it was evident that Tunisia could not contend with the Americans. The U.S. took a five-point lead early in the match with the score 9-4. The exchanged points without any team really picking up momentum. The biggest lead the U.S. had in the set was eight points as they lead 23-15. Tunisia scored 4 of the 6 points exchanged, but the last one came from the hands of Smith who spiked a ball resulting in a Tunisia team fault.
