Olympics 2012 Women's Water Polo Live Stream: Watch USA vs. Australia in Semifinals

Aug 07, 2012 10:26 AM EDT

Before the 2012 Summer Olympics began in London, Sports Illustrated picked the Australian women's water polo team to beat the U.S. in the gold medal final.

That won't happen.

After the U.S. finished second in its group to Spain and Australia won its group, the two nations were put on course for a semifinal clash, which will take place Tuesday at the Water Polo Arena, a temporary facility built specifically for these Olympic Games. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. local time (10:30 a.m. ET in the United States), and will send one team on to the gold medal match against the winner of Tuesday's second semifinal between Spain and Hungary. The losers will face off for the Bronze.

The game will be broadcast on NBC in the United States and available online at NBCOlympics.com.

Australia got all it could handle in the quarterfinals from China, as a Chinese side that underachieved during group play took the highly touted Australians to a penalty shootout before succumbing by a 20-18 margin. The U.S., meanwhile, had a relatively easy time with Italy, scoring a 9-6 victory.

American Maggie Steffens leads all scorers at the Olympics with 12 goals in four games, while Novola Zagame of Australia leads her team with 10.
