Notroe Dame is the nation's best shooting team coming off one of their worst performances this season. To make matters worse, one of their top scorers is out with an injury which could hurt the Irish's chances of getting back on track as they face off against Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets do not have a win yet in ACC play, but are looking to sneak one from Notre Dame on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Irish did not have a good outing against Virginia as they fell to 3-1 in the ACC. The team shot a season-low 33.9 perfect while only putting up 56 points total. Virginia does have one of the best defenses in the league, but Notre Dame expected to play a little better against the team. They still lead the nation in field goal percentage, but they missed their final four shots against the Cavaliers which has the team worried heading into playing Georgia Tech.
To make matters worse for Notre Dame, they will be without second-leading scorer Zach Auguste who currently ranks fourth nationally with 65.3 percent field goal shooting while averaging 14.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. It is unclear the reason behind Auguste's absence as it sounds more of an internal issue than an injury, but he did not travel to the game with the team and is not expected to be seen in the coming days. Head coach Mike Brey is not concerned about Auguste's absence and feels that his team can easily fill the void against Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech is desperate for a win as they sit 0-3 in AC play. Each defeat have come by a combined 15 points. They currently rank last in the ACC in field goal percentage and 3-point shooting while they also continue to get outrebounded. Notre Dame took advantage of that in their first meeting by shooting 53.3 percent out outrebounding the Yellow Jackets 46-31. Marcus Georges Hunt had 20 in that matchup and will need another 20 if Tech is going to win.
