The curious case of Adrian Peterson as everyone continues to speculate what the running back will do once reinstated back into the league following a suspension from child abuse allegations. Peterson has hinted at a number of options from returning to the Minnesota Vikings, signing with another team or promptly retiring and trying to pursue his Olympic dream instead. Peterson will be allowed back into the NFL come April and Vikings general manager Rick Spielman expects the running back in Minnesota.

Head coach Mike Zimmer was the first to voice his support for Peterson returning to the team. The head coach said he plans to discuss the options with his running back and while the team is certainly hoping he comes back, it is a "two-way street" and Peterson must want to return as well. Spielman is echoing that belief as he spot to the media.

"I know that Adrian is a good person, just being around him," Spielman said, via Sports Illustrated. "I know he's done a lot of good in this community. Is there a resolution? Not right now. All's I know is where we stand today. Does that change? I'm sure it's going to change."

Peterson's contract is what hurts the effort of getting the running back to return. The veteran is under contract for the new three seasons and is expected to earn $12.75 million. At 29, that is a lot for a running back to be earning. The Vikings have some roster holes to fill and could use that money. However, are they going to be able to get a running back better than Peterson who's legs will have a year of rest on them?

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, along with the potential return of Peterson, the Vikings are also being linked to a trade for a top wide receiver. Greg Jennings is aging while Cordarrelle Patterson dropped off the map once again. Larry Fitzgerald could be an excellent option and a solid veteran to help the continued development of Teddy Bridgewater. Andre Johnson could also be an intended target although his cap hit is pretty high. Mike Wallace and Josh Gordon could also be targets as the Vikings continue to invest in pieces that will help Bridgewater in his second season at quarterback.
