Ryan Tannehill showed real signs of potential in 2014, but still suffered a number of pitfalls that held the Miami Dolphins back from true success. The quarterback is preparing to enter the final year of his rookie contract and the Dolphins must decide if Tannehill is going to be the quarterback for the future or if they need to begin grooming his replacement for when his deal expires. As the Dolphins have plenty of offseason decisions to make, wide receiver Brian Hartline hopes the quarterback spot is also looked at.
The Dolphins went a combined 16-16 over the past two years. That means anything is up for discussion when it comes to changes to the roster. Hartline understands that he could be a part of those roster changes, but stresses that he is not the only one that needs to be evaluated.
"I understand anytime a business or a team goes through transition, which we are - I mean let's face it, we're 8-8 the past two years and it's not good enough - then everything is up for discussion," Hartline said, via the Miami Herald.
The Miami Dolphins have key decisions to make at the wide receiver spot as Hartline along with Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson are all heavy salary cap hits. Miami must decide if they all stay or if at least one is let go in some fashion. A number of trade rumors have been circling Wallace's name as the wide receiver still holds plenty of respect. Wallace himself has admitted that he is unsure what his future in South Beach is. According to Hardline, he wants to return, but hopes that communication is constant during this change.
"I just hope everything is communicated efficiently, effectively and not drawn out," Hartline said. "I hope I can quickly get to a point where I'm thinking about winning football games for the Miami Dolphins instead of thinking about the business side of things that sometimes cloud judgment."
Running back Knowshon Moreno is also in need of a new contract as the Dolphins have made little hints as to what his future holds. Moreno came to the team after a career-high season with the Denver Broncos, but spent all year injured in Miami. With the running back market weak, Moreno might find himself on the outside looking in just like one of the wide receivers.
