Olympics 2012 Women's Beach Volleyball Finals Schedule: When to Watch May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings Defend Gold Medal

Aug 07, 2012 10:00 PM EDT

The Women's Beach Volleyball Final will arrive on the courts of London on Wednesday evening. It will be USA vs. USA as Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings will face Jennifer Kessy and April Ross. ESPN will probably dig up a fact stating that will be the first time Americans will meet in the Olympic Women's Beach Volleyball finals with the opponents having names of months that are back-to-back on the calendar.

But we digress.

Catch the action tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. GMT.

You can add one gold and silver to the U.S.'s medals total after this one is done.

Both teams played on Wedneday and after Brazil took the first set of the Ross and Kessy match, the chances of a USA vs. USA final looked slim.

Ross and Kessy faced an uphill climb after Brazil's duo of Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca took the first set 21-15. Ross and Kessy hung around until the halfway point of the match when both teams were tied at 11. Brazil went on a 3-0 run that took the U.S. duo by surprise as they never settled back into the set. They finished the first set on a 10-4 run to take the 1-0 in the match.

The U.S. once again had to play from behind as Brazil took a quick 9-6 lead. The U.S. tied it up at 14-14 and then jumped out to an 18-16 lead over Brazil. U.S. put the set away on an attack from Ross and a failed dig by Silva.

Finally in the third set, Kessy and Ross started out on a roll and never trailed in the set, ultimate capturing the set 15-12 to give them the match and a chance at gold.

May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings simply dominated China. The match only took 44 minutes in total, 22 minutes in each set. It was a quick victory and now these ladies will once again have a chance to win gold.
