The preliminaries are over and the U.S. gets ready to focus on the true goal of winning Olympic gold as they get ready to play in the Men's Basketball quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Team USA will have the pleasure of facing Australia in Game 4 of the quarterfinals. Both teams will take the court at 4 p.m. ET/9 p.m. GMT.
Everybody knows the start power that the U.S. possesses, but Australia has done it quietly in the Olympics. They do not possess any NBA talent, aside for Patrick Mills who is a guard for the San Antonio Spurs.
They finished in last place in Group B, behind Russia, Brazil and Spain. Australia went 3-2 in the first round.
Australia looked incapable of competing against the powerhouses like Spain and Russia. They lost to Brazil 75-71 and to Spain 82-70.
Then out of nowhere, they turned it up, winning against China in blowout fashion 81-61. They destroyed Great Britain 106-75 and beat Russia in their last match of the first round 82-80.
The U.S. will have to be careful to not underestimate the Aussies. Lithuania gave them a scare as they challeged Team USA and lost only by five points in a close 99-94 game.
Many thought the U.S. had exposed multiple weaknesses, but then they went out and romped Argentina 128-97.
