The New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks are playing live on the NBA schedule for MLK Day and the matchup from NY at Madison Square Garden starts at 5:30 pm ET as Anthony Davis and Carmelo Anthony play and the Knicks are hoping for a positive day after so much losing this season.
The Knicks come into the game after a loss against the Milwaukee Bucks in London nd that game was yet another lopsided loss for New York. The team was down 14 after the first five minutes of the game and never had the chance to come back. Anthony scored 25 points in the game to lead the Knicks, while/ Jose Calderon had nine assists. The Knicks matchup with the Sixers on the road after this game and they come into things ranked 29th in the league in points per game.
The Knicks have been as bad as anyone this season and they are looking to at least get a win on their annual game against the Pelicans on this day. The Pelicans come in at 20-20, but they have a legit superstar on their roster with Anthony Davis, who has turned into a consistent threat and is averaging a double-double this season. The Pelicans come into the game after a win against the Toronto Raptors and they next will play against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Pelicans come into the game ranked in the top 10 in rebounds per game and the team is averaging 100 points per game this season. Davis has been fantastic while averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds this season and many think one day he will be an MVP candidate. The Pelicans have lost six of eight games on the road and they come in after a late win against the Raptors and now they are trying to win at the Garden, which has not been an issue for visiting teams this season.
Davis is expected to be back in the lineup after dealing with an injury and he has been out along with Jrue Holiday, who also could return. The Knicks lost to the Pelicans earlier in the season and they have lost the last nine games by an average of 20 points per game and this is a chance for the Pelicans to get another win over the Knicks. The team already traded Iman Shumpert and JR Smith and they could look at more trades as the deadline gets closer.
