While all eyes focus in on the pending quarterback drama for the Cleveland Browns, there are a few other important players that have uncertainty surrounding them heading into the offseason. Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer will remain the attention grabbers for the Browns as the team toys with who stays, who goes and who comes in to help with the quarterback job. But, the playmakers surrounding them could be changing soon and Jordan Cameron might be first up on the chopping block.
Cameron has been one of the most consistent players for the Browns during his tenure with the team. The tight end is coming off a quiet season after dealing with shoulder issues most of the year. Just one year after putting up 917 yards and seven touchdowns, Cameron had just 424 yards and two scores in 10 games played. Some of that was injuries while some was quarterback play. Cameron told the media that he would like to return, but he Browns might have other options.
"It'd be cool to finish here. I started here," Cameron said, via the team website. "There's a lot of factors that go into it and I haven't given it thought. I've been focused solely on the games being played. Now it's time to think about it and I'll sit down with my agent, but right now it's up in the air and there's a lot of stuff that has to go into me coming back here."
Cameron's worth is tricky to determine. Is he on the same level as the four-year, $40 million deal Jimmy Graham signed with the New Orleans Saints? The Browns might decide not to break the bank on the tight end spot no matter how dynamic the player is. However, they could just be aiming to find other options and bring in fresh faces.
With Josh Gordon also on the outs in Cleveland, the Browns are in need of big-time playmakers to help out the quarterback position. Could Julius Thomas be a target? The Denver Broncos star is scheduled to be a free agent this year and could get overlooked as Demaryius Thomas also needs a deal. According to Bleacher Report, the Browns would be wise to take a look at Thomas considering he is the best tight end available outside of Cameron.
The Browns have been linked to a number of playmakers heading into the offseason. Trades are an option for players like Mike Wallace, Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson. The Browns need a weapon, someone that can be a down-field dynamic threat. Gordon is no longer trusted by the coaching staff, leaving the team with little playmakers.
