Maryland and Indiana have fared well so far in Big Ten play which makes their head-to-head matchup an exciting one to watch. Maryland sits ranked 13th overall having just one loss in conference play and two overall on the year. Indiana is playing well too with just two losses in conference play. Now, the Terrapins head to a hostile environment the Hoosiers hope works in their favor.
Maryland is rolling at the moment, having not had a close game, minus their one defeat to Illinois at the start of January. They have beaten up on Purdue, Rutgers and Michigan State this year, coming off a 75-59 win over the Spartans. Maryland has been riding high on their defense that is only allowing 61.4 points from opponents. One once has someone shot better than 50 percent against Maryland and that came against Virginia in December. They rank second in the conference as opponents are shooting just 38.0 percent from the field.
The Maryland offense is also looking to make a name for themselves. Melo Trimble put up 24 points on Saturday while making six 3-point shots. He is averaging a team-best 16.1 points per game. Jake Layman is also playing a huge role, averaging 14.7 points. He has four double-doubles on the year which has played a big role for Maryland.
The Terrapins defense will be tested against one of the best scoring offenses in the league. The Hoosiers are averaging 81.6 points per game while Troy Williams and James Blackmon Jr lead the way. In the win over Illinois, they went 11 of 25 from the 3-point line while getting 21 points apiece. Williams is currently averaging 13.4 points on 56.5 percent shooting while is a big improvement from his freshman season. Blackmon is providing a strong one-two punch as he mans the perimeter, shotting 41.5 percent from beyond the arc. Indiana has not been ranked since the end of 2012-13 season and is looking to take advantage of their new found success.
